Mexico City Residents Embrace Outdoor Boot Camps for Summer Fitness
Mexico City residents are turning to structured group workouts in public spaces as interest in accessible fitness options grows this summer.
How we reported this
Outdoor boot camps have expanded sharply in Mexico City this year, with new sessions launching at multiple parks and drawing steady crowds of 40 to 60 participants each morning.
The trend aligns with broader shifts in how residents use public green space for structured exercise. City health programs have emphasized preventive activity since the IMSS expanded community wellness outreach in 2025, and many workers now seek low-cost alternatives to gym memberships amid rising living expenses in central neighborhoods.
Where sessions are taking hold
Trainers run weekday morning classes at Bosque de Chapultepec near the Fuente de los Cántaros entrance, while weekend groups meet at Parque México in the Condesa district along Calle de Sonora. These locations offer flat terrain and shade that support circuits of body-weight drills, short sprints and resistance-band work without equipment fees.
Participants often combine the workouts with the Sunday Ciclovía route along Paseo de la Reforma, extending their activity into longer active commutes through Polanco and Roma Norte.
Costs and participation numbers
Drop-in fees average 180 pesos per 60-minute class, with monthly packages at 650 pesos reported by organizers who began scaling operations in March 2026. A recent IMSS-linked community survey counted more than 12,000 residents enrolled in park-based group fitness across eight boroughs, up from roughly 8,000 the prior year.
Newcomers should arrive 10 minutes early to sign waivers, bring water and a towel, and expect a mix of timed intervals and partner exercises. Checking weather alerts on the day remains useful, since summer rains can shift start times at exposed sites.
